The contemporary world urgently requires the religious leaders of the world to come forward and preach against this modern malady, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said Wednesday while meeting Vatican Ambassador to Iran Jean Paul Gobel, official IRNA news agency reported.

“Iran is interested in dialogue, justice and logic, and they have set a pattern of co-existence with the religious minorities”, Mottaki said, stressing his country’s stance on religion.

The Iranian minister said that Iran and the Holy See have excellent relations and called for further cooperation.

He invited Vatican Foreign Minister Archbishop Dominique Joseph Mamberti to visit Iran and said, “Iran is keen on setting up permanent mission to the Holy See.”

During the talks, Archbishop Gobel handed over a copy of his credentials to Mottaki.

He said Iran has great contribution to civilization with longstanding amity with Christianity.

The Holy See was also ready to set up permanent mission with Iran, he added.
