Gaza : The Israeli government is mulling over a possible international troop deployment in the Gaza Strip, according to Israel Radio.
But, it quoted Israeli security officials as believing that the deployment could take place either through an Israeli overrun of Gaza or a rebellion against Hamas, thus enabling the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) to re-control the strip.
A specialized Israeli team has been pondering over the idea for several weeks, seeking to find alternatives over the situation in Gaza, into which large quantities of weapons have been recently smuggled, the radio claimed.
But, they expected that Egypt might accept a deployment of international observers, rather than troops, on its border with Gaza.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army sealed the Karni crossing with the Gaza Strip, which came under mortar attack early Wednesday.
No casualties or damages were reported, an army spokesman said.
