Pebble Beach (US) : Daniel Chopra dropped down the leaderboard with a three-over 75 in the second round of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and was now on 64th down from overnight 15th.
With four birdies and four bogeys, he seemed to be progressing modestly till he found disaster on the 16th hole, where he triple bogeyed and finished with a 75. It also meant Chopra and his amateur partner comedian George Lopez also fell down in the Pro-Am standings.
Korea’s Kevin Na rose up the ranks when he fired a three-under-par 69 in joint 12th position on Friday. Na, with two top-10 finishes on the US PGA Tour this season, nailed five birdies against two bogeys for a four-under-par 140 total to lie alongside Fijian Vijay Singh who shot his second straight 70.
Yang Yong Eun of Korea and Australian young gun Andrew Buckle both endured a slow run as the duo fired matching 73s and slipped to joint 38th position. Korea’s Charlie Wi was even-par for the day in tied 86th place.
American Tim Herron posted a 69 for a one stroke lead at the top of the pack after a 137 total.
Chopra and Lopez played on the Spyglass Hills course, as three courses are being used for the tournament. The other two courses are Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hill.
The field of 180 professionals and 180 amateurs play each of the three venues over the first three days before the leading 60 professionals and ties qualify for Sunday’s final round on the Pebble Beach Golf Links.
