Mumbai : An Indian doctor who also is a cartoonist has been nominated to the five-member international jury of the 4th World Press Cartoon Contest to be held in Portugal next week.
Mumbai-based radiologist Hemant Morparia will be the first Indian to judge the cartoon contest at the UNESCO world heritage site Sintra, near Lisbon.
He leaves for Lisbon late Friday evening.
“It will be a humbling experience for me to see a lot of excellently rendered art work and a very high quality of ideation. Usually, the caricature section attracts superb talent from around the world media,” Morparia told IANS here Friday.
Working with the Breach Candy Hospital as a radiologist and sonologist, Morparia draws cartoons as a hobby for Mid-Day, Maharashtra Herald, Gomantak Times, Timeout magazine and other international publications.
The jury will assess entries from cartoonists and journalists around the world in three categories – caricatures, editorial cartoons and gags. The entries will compete for the top prize carrying 20,000 Euros.
