Iran: FM says President’s visit to Iraq brings more cooperation

Gorgan, Golestan Province (Iran) : Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said President Ahmadinejad’s visit to Iraq will provide ground for new cooperation between the two countries.

Speaking to IRNA here Monday, Mottaki added, “Of course, we have already had good ties and cooperation with Iraq.”

He underlined the main aim of the trip is to discuss issues of mutual interest with senior Iraqi officials who have officially invited president Ahmadinejad to visit their country.

He said trips by President Jalal Talabani and Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki and other Iraqi officials to Iran prepared the ground for trips of Iran’s senior officials to Iraq.

Mottaki said that the president will discuss ways of restoring tranquility to Iraq by their senior officials.

Iran-Iraq trade exchange level is 2 billion dollars now, so tranquility and security in Iraq will provide the ground for economic growth and development and continuation of cooperation between the two countries, Mottaki added.

He said the exact date of the visit will be announced soon.
