He was speaking to reporters following a meeting with Ahmed Fatehi Sorour, speaker of the Egyptian People’s Assembly, lower house of parliament, which he described as one of the oldest parliaments in the entire Middle East region.

He said he had discussed with Sorour inter-Arab and Arab-international relations as well as Kuwaiti-Egyptian ties.

The Kuwaiti premier invited Egyptian parliamentarians to visit Kuwait to meet their counterparts at the National Assembly, Kuwait’s parliament.

He also hailed Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak’s position during the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990, pointing to the Arab summit in Cairo in August 1990.

For his part, the Egyptian parliament speaker lauded Egyptian-Kuwaiti ties as “distinguished, deep and renewable”.

He also hailed as “important” the visit by HH the Kuwaiti prime minister to the Egyptian assembly, commending Egyptian-Kuwaiti parliamentary bonds. His Highness the prime minister arrived here earlier in the day on a two-day official visit to Egypt as part of a regional tour that has already taken him to Syria and would also take him to Jordan.
