Paris : The French government said here Thursday that it was consulting with its European partners on the issue of independence for the Kosovo region of Serbia, which is composed of a Muslim majority of Albanian extract.
The Albanian leadership on Kosovo has said it is ready to declare independence Friday but is waiting for approval from the EU and the international community to do this.
Spokeswoman of the French foreign ministry Pascale Andreani told reporters “we are consulting with our European partners on this subject and we will discuss this notably next Monday February 18 during the foreign affairs council meeting”.
Serbia, supported by Russia, has expressed strong opposition to the Kosovo independence plan and Russia has blocked support for this in the UNSC, although most of the EU countries and the US are behind Kosovos independence.
