New York : Iran on Wednesday called on all governments to expand cooperation aimed at effective implementing the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in a time after the Kyoto Protocol.
Iran’s permanent Representative to the United Nations Mohammad Khazaei was addressing a UN General Assembly debate on the impact of global warming in New York on Wednesday as he pointed to achievements of the 13th meeting of the conference of the parties (COP 13), held in Indonesia’s Bali in December.
He said that in their future talks and measures, governments should pay attention to problems caused in developing countries as a result of the climate change.
The talks opened on Monday in the presence of the UN Chief Ban Ki-moon and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
The Iranian diplomat said that a precise and comprehensive study on change of climate would fail, if it refused to simultaneously pay heed to development and its environmental impacts.
He added that industrialized countries would shoulder a heavy responsibility in reducing greenhouse gases emissions and stated that they should help transfer state-of-the-art technologies and supply necessary financial resources to implement projects in developing countries.
Representatives from 106 countries and eight international organizations delivered speeches at the three-day meeting.
