A league media delegation will leave for Damascus to follow up the latest media arrangements for the summit, Ahmed bin Helli, assistant secretary-general of the league for political affairs, was quoted by Egypt’s state-owned Middle East News Agency (MENA) as saying on Friday.

Helli, who was in Damascus on Wednesday for the purpose, said the league’s team accompanying him during the tour had checked logistic arrangements for the summit, including venues for meetings.

He hailed Syrian arrangements for the forthcoming Arab summit as a “major achievement”.

He added that he would report to Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa on the outcomes of his recent visit to Damascus.

The 20th Arab summit is scheduled to kick off in Damascus with an economic and social meeting on March 24-25, Helli added.

Other meetings are to follow within the framework of preparations for the March summit.

It has been recently agreed by the Arab League’s Economic and Social Council on the convention of a planned Arab economic and social summit in Kuwait in January 2009.
