Iraq’s consulate opens in Ahvaz

Ahvaz : In an official ceremony attended by Iranian and Iraqi officials, Iraq’s consulate in Ahvaz was inaugurated on Thursday.

During the ceremony where Iraqi Ambassador to Tehran Mohammad Majid al-Sheikh was present, the country’s national flag was hoisted.

Expansion of ties between Khuzestan province and Iraq is regarded as a big stride towards promotion of economic relations between the two countries, said the Iraqi ambassador.

There are ample untapped economic potentials in Khuzestan province which should be explored to increase current level of trade exchange between Iran and Iraq, he said.

Cultural and historical commonalties would help bolster ties between the two countries, he said.

Iraq is ready to welcome Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad during his upcoming visit to the country which will help broaden mutual relations, he said, adding that the event would make the Iraqi people very happy.

Iraq’s consulates has been opened in the cities of Ahvaz, Mashhad and Kermanshah.
