With only a dozen US states left to hold primary elections, the former first lady has fallen behind in the important competition for delegates to attend the Democratic Convention in August.

After solid victories in Wisconsin and Hawaii on the 19th, the Illinois senator, Obama, continued his winning streak to 10 consecutive victories and his campaign gains unprecedented strength.

The US media explained that the 46-year-old senator managed to undermine the political base of the Clintons and his speeches work like a magnet to conquer votes even among white women and men.

Now, as never before, since the beginning of the 2007 presidential campaign, the New York congresswoman urgently needs to wrap up the Texas and Ohio votes with 228 and 161 delegates respectively, and, perhaps Pennsylvania this coming April.

After the elections on the 19th, Obama wins over Clinton with 1,319 as opposed to 1, 245 including the addition of the “super delegates” or those designated by the party bosses.

Other important votes still await the Democrats in Pennsylvania on April 22 with 188 delegates. On May 6 Indiana (with 84 delegates) and North Carolina (134) that will cause expectation in the media.

At the moment the New York senator leads Obama with a margin of 52.7 against 38 in relation to intentions in Ohio while in Texas Clinton leads by seven percentage points.

However, surveys that revealed those figures were done before the stunning wins of Obama on February 18 in Wisconsin and Hawaii that may swing thousands of voters.

No doubt there are still many surprises about who will sit in the Oval Office. But the important question is: Can a black man, with a Muslim father born in Kenya, win the presidency of the first world power?
