Beijing : China’s longest wedding dress measuring 999 meters (3,277 ft) has gone on display in a shopping mall in Dalian, northwest China, the country’s Xinhua news agency reported.
The hand-knitted scarlet dress is made of 2,008 pieces of jade, and decorated with 29 golden phoenixes and 880 peonies. The dressmakers spent three months finishing the extra-long bridal train.
The unusual wedding gown was sponsored by business corporations to honor the upcoming Beijing Summer Olympic Games. “The wedding dress features Chinese cultural elements, adopting the traditional auspicious red color,” Xinhua said.
The world’s longest wedding dress was made in Cyprus in February 2007, and measured 1,362 meters (4,468 ft) according to The Guinness World Book of Records.
The world’s previous record was a 1,203.9 meter-long (3,949.8 ft) dress made in France in August 2006.
