Islamabad : At least seven people, including an army general, were killed and 10 others injured Monday in a bomb blast in the eastern Pakistani city of Rawalpindi, private television channel Dawn TV said.
The interior ministry confirmed the attack and said that Lt General Mushtaq Baig was among the killed.
Witnesses said that a suicide bomber rammed his explosives-laden car into Baig’s vehicle at 2:55 p.m. on the busy Mall Road of the cantonment area of the city, some 30 km south of the capital.
The injured were shifted to the nearby military hospital.
The blast destroyed about 10 cars, witnesses said.
The police cordoned off the blast site.
