Gaza : Islamic Hamas movement on Monday announced it had received a copy from Yemen over a its initiative aims at making reconciliation with Hamas’ rival Fatah movement.” The movement follows up the details of this initiative with the Yemeni leadership,” Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri told reporters in Gaza, affirming that Hamas supports any attempt to boost the national dialogue of the Palestinians.

The initiative, put by Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh, calls for Hamas to end its control which gained the Gaza Strip by force in June after routing security forces loyal to President Mahmoud Abbas of Fatah. The return of the situation to its previous conditions aims at pushing Hamas and Fatah for reconciliation.

However, Abu Zuhri implicitly rejected the Yemeni initiative by stressing that Hamas “was ready to make any Arab mediation successful on the basis of pushing for dialogue (with Fatah) without any precondition.”

Meanwhile, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) welcomed the Yemeni initiative, saying its articles agree with a similar plan launched earlier by the PFLP. “Ending the state of division is a pressing national duty to maintain the Palestinian national enterprise,” said Rabah Mhana, a PFLP official in Gaza.

The PFLP called on Hamas to accept the initiative as President Abbas accepted it.
