New Delhi : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Monday hinted at a relief package for small and marginal farmers from Punjab in the budget.
Addressing a delegation of farmers from the state at his official residence here, Manmohan Singh said he was not in a position to make any announcement as the union budget was going to be presented in parliament later this week, but “your concerns will be taken care of”.
The key demand of the farmers’ delegation was to waive the loan repayment dues for agriculturists holding less than five acres of land.
They presented their memorandums to Manmohan Singh and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, who was also present on the occasion.
