Tehran : Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini has said that expansion of security cooperation among the regional states will be the best possible way to counter terrorism.
Speaking at his his weekly press briefing Sunday, he said “Necessary measures have already been taken to reinforce our borders.”
He said that such move was made after Turkey launched an offensive in north Iraq against the Kurdish rebels.
“Regarding the PKK (Kurdistan Workers Party) and other terrorist factions active in the region, we stress that the best way to deal with terrorists is the security cooperation among the regional countries,” Hosseini said.
On the presence of the Turkish forces in Iraq, he said, “We believe the opinion of the Iraqi government must be respected although we also believe the terrorists must stop their terrorist operations there.”
Hosseini said that presence in the region of “foreign forces” was creating instability.
