New Delhi/Chandigarh : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Tuesday arrested two senior police officials in Punjab for their alleged involvement in a sex scandal.
Punjab’s Assistant Inspector General (Security) Devendra Singh Garcha and Superintendent of Police (Ropar) Paramvir Singh Sandhu were taken into custody from Chandigarh, officials said.
Some councillors, a businessman and a journalist are also facing prosecution for exploiting women and minors in Moga, Punjab.
The case, unearthed in April 2007, pertains to two women, Manpreet Kaur and Manjeet Kaur, who in connivance with police officials, allegedly extorted money from people with the threat of slapping sexual abuse charges against them.
“We have arrested AIG (Security), Punjab, Devendra Singh Garcha and Superintendent of Police Paramvir Singh Sandhu from Chandigarh for their alleged involvement in the Moga sex scandal,” a CBI official told IANS.
“Garcha, an IPS officer, was the then senior superintendent of police and Sandhu was the then superintendent of police of Moga when the scandal took place,” the official added.
