A statement by NATO released here on Wednesday said the bomb hit the NATO patrol in Sharan, capital of Afghanistan’s southeastern Paktika province, which borders the troubled tribal region of Pakistan.

The multinational force did not release names of the soldiers killed in the explosion, saying it was against its policy. Officials said the blast took place on Tuesday when the ISAF convoy was on patrol in the district. Meanwhile, the US-led coalition and the Afghan Army said they had arrested 17 suspected insurgents during an operation in Sabri district of the neighboring Khost province of the troubled country. Another statement said the combined force raided compounds housing suspected militants, the raid was carried out after intelligence provided by citizens, said the statement. The army official did not report any casualties on either side during the operation.
