New Delhi: Yahya Kammukutty who was arrested in Bangalore for terror related charges is actually a victim of business rivalry, according to his wife Fareeda. Talking to Deccan Herald from her village in Kozhikode she said that there was a conspiracy against Yahya hatched by rivals in the software business.
“My husband has been trapped by people in the US-based company who were against his quitting the firm and setting up his own business. It is the very same people who have also planted all sorts of stories against him,” said Fareeda who moved to her father’s house on Sunday.
Fareeda acknowledged that Yahya was associated with SIMI in the past but denied any involvement when it got banned. She said that SIMI past does not automatically means a life of terrorism.
Yahya was planning to start a company to sell software for HR field and his rivals in the software industry were afraid that their customers may switch loyalties. She blamed them for planting false stories against her husband.
She said stories about Yahya having “jihadi materials” in his laptop are totally false as he does not own a laptop and at home he only has a personal computer. She also denied that Yahya stole data from his former employer to set up his own company.
Fareeda claims that Yahya was picked up not on February 21 as claimed by the police but on the night of February 18 by four plainclothes policemen. She has been unable to see him ever since.
Farida and Yahya have three children Fatih, 6, Mueeza, 4, and Muzafar, 2.
Yahya was under surveillance for several years and have been previously interrogated in 2003 but he was never arrested. He has been remanded to police custody till March 6.
