Blast in Pakistan, casualties feared

Islamabad : A blast took place in northwest Pakistan Friday and casualties were feared, local TV channel DAWN NEWS reported.

The blast ripped through a gathering at Haji Baba Chowk in Mingora town of Swat Valley in North West Frontier Province, said the report.

No immediate account of casualties or damages is available.

People were offering funeral prayers to Javed Iqbal Mastikhel, District Superintendent Police, who was killed earlier Friday.

Mastikhel and three other policemen were killed in an explosion triggered off by a remote control device at the town of Lakky Marwat, around 240 km south of the provincial capital Peshawar, while heading to police headquarters.

Security forces have cordoned off the site of the blast.

Meanwhile, in a clash between two rival groups in Khyber agency, three people were killed and four others injured, Associated Press of Pakistan reported.
