Sir Ganga Ram Hospital chairman B.K. Rao said: “Mrs. Sonia Gandhi came to our hospital with cough and a light breathing problem. She has a chest infection.”

Rao added that her condition is now stable.

According to a hospital source, a three-member team of doctors was treating Gandhi, 61, in a private ward of the new OPD block.

“Especially, chest specialists are treating her but there is nothing to worry. She is responding well to medicine and doctors are keeping a close watch on her health condition,” said a senior doctor at the hospital who declined to be named.

He said Gandhi was suffering from “mild fever and cold” for the past few days but she “was not bed ridden”.

“She may be discharged Wednesday,” the doctor said.

Scores of Congress party workers turned up in the hospital to meet Gandhi but they were not allowed to go anywhere near her ward. Some of her supporters were seen praying for her speedy recovery and others were holding “Get Well Soon” placards.
