Mumbai recorded a minimum temperature of 13.5 degrees Celsius Thursday against Mahabaleshwar’s minimum of 14.5. A day before the city had stayed cool at 12.5 against Mahabaleshwar’s 14 degrees.

Regional Meteorological Centre Director K. Sathi Devi attributed the sudden lowering of the mercury in Mumbai to the northern wind pattern.

“Geographically Mahabaleshwar should be cooler than Mumbai but occasionally this reverses due to wind patterns,” Sathi Devi told IANS.

The entire state of Maharashtra is in the grip of a cold wave but Mumbaikars can look forward to the temperatures rising over the next 72 hours with mercury hovering around a minimum of 15 degrees, according to M. Rajeevan, director of National Climate Centre in Pune.

Nashik – the cradle of the grape and wine industry in the state – recorded the lowest temperature of 9.5 degrees in the state while Pune recorded 10.

Aurangabad had a minimum of 13 degrees while both Nagpur and Kolhapur recorded lows of 15 degrees Celsius.
