Rawalpindi : President Pervez Musharraf Friday chaired a high level meeting to review the law and order in the country and stressed all measures to ensure peace and security during Muharram-ul-Haram and the general election.
The meeting here at the President’s Camp Office was attended by Caretaker Prime Minister Mohammadmian Soomro, Chief Ministers, Chief of the Army Staff, Interior Minister, senior security officials and other government functionaries.
The meeting was informed about the deployment of Pakistan Army and paramilitary forces on internal security duties in aid to civil power, in some parts of the country.
They were also informed about the plans for ensuring peace and security during Muharram and the general election.
The President emphasised the need for peace during this critical period and said all possible efforts should be made for ensuring protection of life and property of the people.
President Musharraf also underscored the need for timely assessment and evaluation of the damages incurred to the public and private property, following the rioting after the assassination of Ms Benazir Bhutto on Dec 27.
He directed that necessary measures be taken to ensure that there was no recurrance of rioting.
Caretaker Prime Miniter Mohammadmian Soomro said that a mechanism for assessing damage to public and private property was being put in place and the federal government was coordinating with the four provinces in this regard.
