Islamabad : The Pakistani investigation team briefed the Scotland Yard investigation team, which arrived here on Friday to probe into the assassination of Pakistan Peoples Party Chairperson Benazir Bhutto.
Interior Ministry Spokesman Brig ® Javed Iqbal Cheema told APP that the team has not started investigation into the assassination, however it held a meeting with Pakistan’s investigation team here at Interior Ministry and was briefed in this regard.
Cheema strongly contradicted the statement that Asif Ali Zardari and some other political leaders of PPP have been included in investigation process by the team.
“I strongly contradict such statement as the team has yet not started formal investigation into killing.”
He also contradicted news item that Federal government has given full rights to the investigation team and they can include any person in the investigation process.
The spokesman said that federal government has not issued such directions.
He said the investigation team will fully be assisted by the Interior Ministry and Pakistani investigation till the completion of their investigation.
To a question, he said the government would take the investigation team to Waziristan if required.
