New Delhi : Sourav Ganguly despite being dismissed by a controversial decision continued his amazing comeback. The southpaw during the course of his innings of 51 completed his 1,000 runs against Australia. He now has 1045 runs at an average of 34.83 in 18 Tests.
Ganguly, the seventh Indian to complete 1,000 runs against Australia, also scored two fifties in the same Test match for the first time against Australia. He scored – 67 & 51.
Ganguly, with his 32nd Test fifty, has now scored 201 runs at an average of 50.25 in two Tests and is second only to Sachin Tendulkar who has 243 at an average of 81.00 so far.
Umpire Mark Benson handed Ganguly a controversial decision. Ganguly stood his ground after Clarke took a low catch the third slip off Lee. Benson, instead of consulting square leg umpire Steve Bucknor, consulted the Australian captain Ricky Ponting and gave Ganguly out.
TV replays, however, showed that Clarke had not taken the catch cleanly, and the ball was touching the turf.
