Sydney : Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh was late Sunday banned for three Test matches after he was found guilty of racial abuse against Australia’s Andrew Symonds during the second Test here.
Mike Proctor, the match referee for the Test that India lost by 122 runs Sunday, took the decision after an eight-hour hearing, website Cricinfo reported.
The Indian team management said it will appeal against the decision.
Harbhajan Singh had been charged under Level 3 of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Code of Conduct following an alleged incident that took place during the Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
The charge was laid by match umpires Mark Benson and Steve Bucknor after the close of play on day three following a complaint they received from Australian skipper Ricky Ponting.
