Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, chairman of the Hurriyat faction, had recently met Shah and had invited him to join his group, a move aimed at forging unity among the various separatist outfits in the Kashmir Valley.

Shah stipulated that his “joining hands with the Hurriyat group shall have to be preceded by dissolutions of identities of the various constituent parties of the conglomerate to create a single united All Parties Hurriyat Conference”.

“The other conditions for unity would be resurrection of the 1993 Hurriyat constitution with all constituents pledging allegiance to it,” Shah, who heads the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP), told reporters here.

“The 1993 constitution advocates right to self determination for the people or tri-partite talks involving India, Pakistan and people of Kashmir for the resolution of the Kashmir problem.”

Shah said: “No solution under Indian constitution would be acceptable to the people of Kashmir.”

Shah had dissociated from the Hurriyat Conference after differences with senior separatist leaders in 1998.
