Coalition soldier killed in roadside bomb blast

Kabul : A soldier of the US-led coalition troops was killed in a roadside bomb attack in eastern Afghanistan, the military said on Tuesday.

A statement from coalition’s Bagram base said two soldiers were injured when a roadside bomb hit their vehicle in Bhati Kot district of the eastern Nangarhar province on Monday.

“The troops were responding to a call from the local police who had discovered another explosive device nearby, when the second bomb exploded,” the statement said.

One of the soldiers later died of his injuries.

Names and nationalities of the two soldiers were not disclosed.

Meanwhile, the Afghan Interior Ministry said in a statement that three Taliban militants were killed in a clash with police and NATO troops in the southern province of Kandahar. The statement said the clash occurred in Zerai district on Sunday.
