Deaths in attack against Baghdad”s awakening militias increase to 24

Baghdad : Death toll in the attack against Al-Sahwa (Awakening) militias in Baghdad increased to 24 with 47 injured, said an official Monday.

Sheikh Mahmoud Al-Sumaidee, the deputy chairman of the Sunni Waqf (endowments) in Iraq told KUNA that a suicide attacker wearing a belt laden with explosives blew himself up in a building housing Muslim Sunni Waqf Diwan in the Baghdad district of Al-Aadhamiah killing several people amongst them Colonel Riad Al-Sameraee, the chief of local “Al-Sahwa” militia.

He added that another explosion occurred in the same scene when a booby-trapped car blew up, leading to the increase in casualties to 24 deaths and injuries of 47 people.

Al-Sameraee, 57, led a campaign for the Sahwa militias last November to eradicate Al-Qaead terrorist forces in Al-Aadhamiah area.

On other incidents, an IED detonated near a shop in Baghdad’s technological college, resulting in the death of four Iraqis and the injury of 16 others.

A bomb went off in Baghdad’s southern neighborhood of Al-Jedariya, killing an Iraq and injuring four others.
