Gaurav Shetty and three of his friends, who are all students of the SIES College in Sion, central Mumbai, allegedly kidnapped their friend Nakul Kanu on Sunday and physically assaulted him. The three friends are below 18.

The police said Kanu had allegedly posted some lewd messages denigrating Shetty’s girlfriend and her mother on the social networking site Orkut.

Enraged by this act, Shetty and his friends kidnapped Kanu from his residence at Sion Sunday evening. They dumped him in a car and beat him continuously while the car was driven around Sion and surrounding areas.

Shetty is the son of K.R. Shetty, who owns the famous Peninsula Hotel in the area.

“The four youth were produced before the Kurla metropolitan court by the police. They are booked for wrongful confinement, kidnapping and assault,” their advocate Sukhdev Singh told IANS.
