Srinagar : To make on spot appraisal of Muharram-ul-Haram arrangements made by the administration in the Shia Muslim dominated areas of Srinagar district, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Mehboob Iqbal along with a team of senior officers including IGP, Kashmir, S. M. Sahai, Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar Aijaz Iqbal and Chief Engineers of various disciplines and heads of departments conducted an intensive tour of the district.
The Divisional Commissioner enquired from locals about arrangements made on this count by various departments who expressed their satisfaction.
Expressing satisfaction over arrangements made in Zadibal and Hassan abad Imambargahs, Divisional Commissioner directed the concerned to take up immediate construction of temporary lavatory points at these places. He was informed that temporary firewood sales outlets have been set up in Shalimar, Hassan abad and Baghwanpora, stocked with 315 quintals of firewood.
CA&PD department would provide additional one kilogram sugar to Shia-Muslim consumers in the valley.
Divisional Commissioner was told that Srinagar Municipal Corporation has made adequate arrangements for cleanliness in and around Imambargahs and roads to be used for taking out Zuljinah processions. To ensure uninterrupted power supply in Zadibal and Hassan abad Imambargahs, PDD has already installed generators and 300 halogen lamps.
Health department has kept ambulance services available and set up first aid centres for the Muharram mourners.
Mehboob Iqbal stressed for greater coordination among various departments to ensure hassle free services to people.
