Damascus : President Bashar al-Assad called on Wednesday for focusing on projects that renew the infrastructure of the city and improve its appearance, in addition to spreading environmental and traffic awareness among citizens in order to show the civilized face of Damascus, especially since it is the Arab Cultural Capital for 2008.
During his meeting with chairman and members of the Damascus Governorate Executive Office Members of the Executive Office, President al-Assad was briefed in detail on the state of services in Damascus and the biggest problems in it, particularly pollution, congestion, drinking water, random housing and the infrastructure in general.
President al-Assad listened to the Governorate’s suggestion for solving these problems and the efforts being made to achieve that. He then directed Governorate officials to make realistic studies of each vision and suggest detailed means and methods for solving problems.
The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Mohammad Naji Otri and Minister of Local Administration and Environment Hilal al-Atrash.
