Singur protesters burn Nano replica

Kolkata : While Tata Motors unveiled its car in a blaze of glory and publicity Thursday, angry residents of Singur village in West Bengal burnt a replica of the Rs.100,000 Nano as a sign of their protest against the company and its plans to displace them.

People in the area, about 40 km from here in Hooghly district, have been protesting against the state government’s decision to acquire land for the under construction Tata Motors plant.

There were anti-Tata slogans and demonstrations by the people, protesting under the aegis of the Singur Krishi Jomin Raksha Committee (Save the Singur Farmland Committee).
