Top U.S. nuclear envoy arrives to boost six-party talks

BEIJING, Jan. 10 (APP) — Top U.S. nuclear envoy Christopher Hill arrived in Beijing Thursday to consult on the resumption of the six-party nuclear talks.

He told reporters Thursday evening he had good discussion with Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei about the way forward on the six-party process, focusing on how to complete the second phase action plan on resolving the nuclear issue.

The second phase action plan referred to the promise of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) to submit the list of its nuclear programs.

According to Hill, both he and Wu are more concerned about how to complete the second phase action plan rather than the schedule of next six-party meeting.

Hill’s China tour came after the DPRK missed the deadline to list all its nuclear programs by the end of 2007. He had visited Japan and the Republic of Korea before arriving in Beijing. Hill is scheduled to leave here for Russia Friday.
