133 injured in ferry collision accident near Macao

Macao : Some 133 passengers were injured when two high-speed ferries, bound for Hong Kong and Macao respectively, collided with each other Friday night off the Macao coast, said the Maritime Administration official of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).

The accident occurred at 8:30 p.m., about five nautical miles off the Macao coast. There was dense fog in the area at the time of collision.

Among the injured passengers, 19 were badly injured, and no deaths were reported, said Susana Wong Soi Man, director of the Maritime Administration. Ten members of the crew on board the two vessels were also injured.

The injured were admitted to two hospitals in Macao. More than 400 passengers were on board the two ships when the accident happened.

The two TurboJet hydrofoil ferries were run by the Hong Kong- based ShunTak-China Travel Ship Management Limited, which provides ferry services between Macao and Hong Kong.
