Jakarta : Visitors have not been allowed to see critically ill Soeharto directly because the former president has been suffering from multiple-organ failure since last Friday. Only members of the presidential doctor team and close relatives such as soeharto’s children and grandchildren, were allowed to go inside the room where Soeharto is being treated at Pertamina Hospital.

Visitors were accommodated in a guest room where they could pray for the former president’s recovery.

“I and other guests cannot go to the treatment room of Pak Harto, while the (presidential) doctor team’s members and Pak Harto’s children are in another room,” Camelia Malik, a veteran artist who is close of Soeharto’s family, said.

Those visiting Soeharto on Sunday evening and Monday morning included Soeharto’s grandson Dandy Rukmana and wife Lulu Tobing, former military chief Wiranto, and Sudwikatmono, a businessman and relative of Soeharto.

Doctors said on Sunday the former strong man was in “very critical condition” after suffering multiple organ failure, with the function of his heart, lungs, and kidneys further declining.

The 86-year-old’s red blood cell level had also dropped and doctors had to clear his breathing pipe following signs it was clogged.

Doctors said his chances to stay alive was only 50 percent.
