Moscow : Two new silos of intercontinental strategic missiles Topol-M will increase the Russian Federation’s dissuasive arsenal in 2008, a military source asserted on Saturday in this capital.
The Strategic Missile-Troop Regiment of Tatischevo, in the Saratov province, will have the current year two new land positions of Topol-M missiles in combative readiness, said spokesman of that weapon Colonel Alexander Volk.
The military group already has eight silos of that kind, and will have 40, said the officer.
In a visit to the SMT units, Russian President Vladimir Putin asserted that the strategic intercontinental missiles Topol-M are the Russian weapon of the 21st century, due to their long operational life, high speed, and capacity to evade sophisticated anti-missile defense systems.
Comparing this weapon with the preceding generation, its has more fire precision, and the time to reach the target is shorter, due to greater acceleration velocity, which favor penetration into any anti-missile defense system.
Moscow’s Thermal Equipment Institute Director Yuri Solomonov, who is in charge of the new generation of strategic missiles, considered that these projectiles are an adequate response to any development by the United States and other countries.
