Islamabad : At least seven Pakistani troops and 23 militants were killed Monday in fighting near the Afghan border in Pakistan, the military said.
The clash occurred in Mohmand Agency of Federally Administered Tribal Areas near the border with Afghanistan after suspected Islamic militants ambushed a military convoy, army spokesman Major General Waheed Arshad said.
He added that the security forces killed 23 militants in the fighting, in which both sides used heavy weapons. Arshad said that a search operation was continuing in the area to apprehend the militants.
Local TV channels reported that security forces used rockets and helicopter gunships to shell militant positions.
