New Delhi : The cabinet Thursday gave its approval for introduction of a bill in parliament seeking to modify the list of Scheduled Tribes in Arunachal Pradesh by removing the term ‘Dafla’ for the state’s Nyishi community.
The Bill, the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2008, seeks to amend the constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order 1950 for modifying the list of Scheduled Tribes in the state.
The Nyishi community, one of the largest tribes in the state, has been demanding removal of the term ‘Dafla’, which they consider derogatory, and insertion of ‘Nyishi’ in the list.
