India army ask for more funds for modernization

NEW DELHI, Jan. 17 APP: The Indian army has asked for more funds in the next budget to carry out the process of modernisation.
Talking to mediapersons on the sidelines of his visit to the NCC Republic Day Camp here, the Indian Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor said “the Army is keenly interested in the modernisation of the force and if we get the budget allocation, we would be happy. “

He further said soldiers were confident to get fair deal in the Sixth Pay Commission.

India has embarked upon an ambitious plan to acquire armaments worth billions of dollars to induct in the army.

Meanwhile, the fire in army ammunition depot in Anantnag district of south Kashmir on August 11 last year caused loss of Rs. 26 crores.

The occupied Kashmir state Minister for Revenue Aijaz Ahmed Khan told the state assembly an amount of Rs. 26.74 million was lost in terms of property. The cost of huge ammunition which was burnt in the fire is not included in this amount.

Reports suggested that militants triggered the fire in the depot which also caused loss of lives.
