Pakistan, US discuss security situation of bordering tribal region

Islamabad : The US Centcom Chief Tuesday met with Pakistani Chief of Army Staff and discussed matters related to the security of bordering tribal regions.

Admiral William J Fallon, Commander US CENTCOM arrived here Tuesday morning on a day long visit, said a military statement.

Admiral Fallon, it said, called on Chief of Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and discussed matters of professional interest with particular reference to security situation in the region.

Defence ministry sources told KUNA that the two military officials discussed in their almost hour-long meeting the worsening security situation of the bordering tribal region and possible military operation.

It was made clear in the meeting, said sources, that no foreign troops will be allowed to conduct any operations in the tribal areas as being widely reported in the media. However, they added, the two officials agreed to make intelligence sharing mechanisms more effective.
