United Nations : The high UN Representative for Least Developed, Landlocked Developing, Small Island Developing States, Cheikh Sidi Diarra, will now also be a special advisor to the secretary general on African issues, announced UN spokeswoman, Michelle Montas.
The Mali diplomat with 25 years of professional experience in international relations, laws and development has been head of the Least Developed Nations since July 2007 and will now combine this responsibility with that of advisor.
Montas said the decision to join both responsibilities in the same person is aimed at strengthening organizational capacity to act and offer services with more efficiency.
At the same time, she explained, the distinctive character of each program will be maintained.
