Amman : At least 20 people were killed when the tour bus they were travelling in collided with a water tanker in northern Jordan, officials said Sunday.
The accident took place Saturday on the highway between capital Amman and the northern city of Irbid, killing at least 20 people and injuring 16, the official news agency Petra said.
Both the bus and the tanker fell into a valley as a result of the collision, the news agency quoted Major Mohammad Al Khatib, director of the media office at the public security department as saying.
He said ambulances and rescue teams headed immediately to the site after the accident to evacuate the dead and injured to Jerash Hospital and other nearby hospitals.
Yousef Quqaza, director of the Jerash Hospital said all medical cadres in the hospital were put on alert to provide medical aid to the injured, adding the toll could rise, as many of the survivors were seriously injured.
