Captain Wissan Eid, Police Internal Security member, and his body guard died instantly in the explosion while their vehicle was passing under a bridge close to Mount Lebanon hospital, the Lebanese television reported.

Clips of those images showed cars destroyed by the powerful blast, while firemen were trying to control the intense flames that rose several feet.

This is another attack in a chain of similar incidents in recent years in Lebanon, mainly against political figures, marring even more the country’s situation.

Just a few weeks ago, three Lebanese citizens died and several others were wounded when a car from the US embassy was passing by and a bomb exploded.

No organization has claimed responsibility for the attack, and the attackers’ motive to kill Eid remains unknown.

The also specialist in anti-terrorist struggle was the target in February of another attack in front of his home, police sources said.

The New TV station said the top security officer had planned a meeting for Friday with the International Committee that is investigating Lebanese ex Prime Minister Rafic Hariri’s assassination in Beirut, in February, 2005.
