Sarkozy for Military Deals with India

New Delhi : French President Nicolas Sarkozy began a two-day visit to India Friday, aimed at promoting bilateral political and economic relations, as well as the sale of military equipment to the Asian nation.

After meeting with President Pratibha Patil, and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the French leader expressed satisfaction for being chosen guest of honor to the cultural-military parade marking the 47th Anniversary of the Day of the Republic, to take place Saturday.

He also met with Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee, and plans to do so with opposition leader Lal Krishna Advani.

Mukherjee stated agreements are expected to be signed in defense, highway, science and technique, and education.

Sarkozy is interesting in promoting military deals with India, which stands as the largest buyer of arms among developing countries, in which it expects to invest 30 billion dollars in the coming five years.
