Protesting teachers beaten up with sticks in Patna

Patna : Dozens of teachers were injured here Tuesday when police beat them up with sticks as around 5,000 teachers were taking out a peaceful rally demanding a pay hike and permanent jobs.

The teachers were heading towards the state assembly when the police beat them up.

“Dozens of teachers, including women, were injured and many were arrested,” said Sanjay Singh, a teacher who participated in the rally.

“The rally was very peaceful. The teachers just wanted to stage a demonstration before the state government in support of their demand for permanent jobs and an increase in pay,” said Kaushalendra Kumar, another teacher.

The teachers are also against the sacking of those who obtained less than 45 percent in Class 12.
