Lucknow : Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) legislator Shribhagwan Sharma alias Guddu Pandit, arrested on charges of rape, intimidation and adultery, has been declared fit by hospital authorities and sent to Uttar Pradesh’s Etah district jail, police said Tuesday.
On Sunday, Pandit was referred to the Aligarh Medical College after he complained of a heart problem.
“He was admitted to the ICU but doctors declared him fit Monday evening,” Superintendent of Police (Kanshi Ram Nagar) Luv Kumar told IANS.
Pandit was arrested earlier Sunday after a woman alleged that he had raped, and physically and sexually abused her for years. The lawmaker was arrested from his Sector-53 residence in Noida, a suburb of the national capital.
Pandit was then brought to Kanshi Ram Nagar district where a court remanded him to 11 days of judicial custody, Kumar said.
The investigating Officer of the case, inspector R.S. Rathore, questioned Pandit about the charges levelled by the woman the day he was arrested.
“However, Pandit maintained that he has been wrongly framed and does not know the complainant,” said Rathore.
The father of the victim, Dinesh Chand Birla, in his complaint registered at Kasganj police station in Kanshi Ram Nagar district, has said the legislator had ‘married’ his daughter concealing the fact that he already had a wife and two kids.
Later when it became known that he had a family, the legislator insisted on keeping the victim as a mistress. The complaint says the woman was abducted, kept at several places, raped and physically and mentally tortured by Pandit.
