Srinagar: Coordination Committee constituted after the controversy erupted over the transfer of land to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) has called off the strike, which crippled the normal life in Kashmir since last nine day.
The decision was taken by the committee after the state cabinet revoked the controversial order of transferring the land to SASB.
Mian Abdul Qayoom, chairman of the committee, told media persons, here today, that the cabinet order is the victory of people of Kashmir, who have sacrificed for just cause.
“We urge the people to celebrate the victory”, he said adding that the victory is of the people and not of any particular political party.
Referring to the cabinet order, he said, “The government has issued an order by virtue of which the earlier order of cabinet has been cancelled”.
“Our agitation was for the revocation of the order and as the government has conceded the demand we call off the strike”.
“We congratulate the people, who have fought the battle”, he said adding, “We urge the people to celebrate the occasion by lighting candles at their residence and place of working”.
Police, he said, has arrested number of workers of Muslim Workers and “we condemn the police action as well as police firing in Budgam and Hyderpora”.
Jammu and Kashmir has been on boil due to the controversial order and Kashmir observed a complete shut down coupled with violent clashes from last nine days. Though situation is returning to normal in Valley, it has taken a U turn in Jammu, winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir, where people are protesting against the government decision to cancel the order
