Srinagar : Yasin Malik, chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), Thursday left with dozens of his supporters to meet Amarnath pilgrims to “re-assure them that Kashmiris are not against the pilgrimage” nor do they “favour a communal divide on the land row”.
“I am leaving with my supporters for Baltal (north Kashmir base camp) to re-assure the pilgrims that Kashmiris have always helped and supported the annual pilgrimage to the Hindu cave shrine,” Malik told reporters here.
“I am also carrying relief for the pilgrims, which we will hand over to the ‘langars’ (free kitchens) already running there.”
Malik strongly criticised those trying to give a “communal” overtone to the situation, which was triggered by a government order to allot 40 hectares of forest land to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board. The order was cancelled Tuesday after a week of violent protests in the Muslim-majority Kashmir Valley.
“It is actually such people who want to derive political mileage from the present situation and they are the enemies of the masses,” Malik said.
