Sarkozy expresses desire to meet Al-Assad in Paris

Paris, France : French President Nicholas Sarkozy has stressed that he is looking forward to meet President Bashar alAssad in Paris on July 12th to discuss bilateral relations , expressing hope that such a meeting will be a new page in the Syrian –French relations.

During his meeting this afternoon at the Elysee Palace with Syrian Foreign Minister, Walid Moallem , the French President expressed France readiness to contribute to the current economic development in Syria and to push forward the peace process in the region , stressing the support of France to the indirect talks between Syria and Israel under the mediation of Turkey that would lead to the achievement of comprehensive peace in the region.

Talks during the meeting dealt with bilateral relations , and with the developments of the situation in the Middle East.

Earlier, Moallem held talks over lauch at the Elysee Palace with French Presidency Secretary General , Claude Guiyun ,which dealt with the current preparations for President al-Assad’s visit to Paris on 12th of current July.

The talks were attended by Sarkozy’s Diplomatic Advisor, Jean -David Levitte , French Ambassador to Syria , Michel Duclos, and Director of Syrian Foreign Ministry Special Office , Bassam Sabbagh.

It is worth mentioning that President al-Assad received in mid of last June a letter from Sarkozy conveyed by Claude Guiyun and Jean David Livette.

The talks which were held between President alAssad and the French envoys ,were constructive and useful and reflected the agreement of the view points of the two sides on the necessity for boosting bilateral relations in the service of the interests of both countries, and on the necessity for the continuation of exerting efforts , cooperation and coordination for the achievement of just and comprehensive peace in the region.

President al-Assad also received a phone call from Sarkozy last May on which Sarkozy praised President al-Assad’s incessant efforts to make Doha accord a success expressing desire to give stronger momentum to bilateral relations particularly in the political , and economic sphere , and to intensify coordination between them with regard to the issues of mutual concern, stressing his country’s support to Syria in restoring all her rights , and readiness to extend everything that can push the peace process forward.
